We love eating out at The Cove. Food is always great, service is superb, prices reasonable and the wine list wonderful. The beach is just across the road and a stroll along it makes a perfect ending to a successful night out. Keep up the good work guys. We’re lucky to have you.

Any chance of sharing your current (winter) opening hours for visitors / bachers who are in the area infrequently? Am keen to know if we can pop over for brunch but cant find opening hours post 1 april anywhere.

    • Rosemary Neave on April 27, 2015 at 8:55 pm

Our beautiful meal here recently left a sour taste in our mouth when the bill came. We had request extra bread for to clean up the rest of our antipasti dish, a plate came with 1 slice of white bread sliced in two, we could accept that if they had not charged us $5 for it. It was deeply embarrassing as we were dining with overseas visitors.

    • Rosemary Neave on February 25, 2015 at 7:41 pm

Hi mel – here is Lloyd’s response “I am shocked to discover that the customer was charged $5.00 for a slice of bread and I completely agree with the customer that it is totally unacceptable. I personally bought bread baskets and a bread cutting station as it was always my intention to offer bread free to all customers upon arrival. It is something that I did in the UK when I had my restaurant there and if I’m honest it has been common practice through all the restaurants that I have worked in.

I have instructed the staff that in future they are to ask the kitchen for bread rather than use the side button which carries a charge.

Please let the customer know that next time they are passing a complimentary bottle of house wine is available for them to enjoy.

Thanks again Rosemary for you email to me I really do appreciate being able to rectify a situation.”

No WIFI is a distinct disadvantage.

    • Rosemary Neave on February 10, 2015 at 1:48 pm

sorry about that – I will mention that to the guys – reception at waipu cove is pretty bad all round with phones, so it is hard to tether as well 🙁

The Cove has only been open for about a month. We visited in their second week – dinner at the restaurant and back for takeaway lunch. Lloyd and Mike have created a welcoming, relaxed but professional establishment. There’s a good looking breakfast menu including a selection of soothies, the lunch/dinner menu ranges from burgers and pizza to prawns and lamb. The extensive wine list is a charm with personal insight on each offering. We’ll be booking a table for the summer I think.

thanks Claire, great to be getting such good feedback about it.

every sunday we like to support our local cafe’s for our brunch, we reside in the outer are of kaiwaka, sadly though this morning we went to your cafe and were dissapointed with our brunch, my muffins were burnt and no matter how much hollendaise sauce it had on it which was I might say an over kill it had flavoured through my salmon and eggs, also there was no coffee served till after our meal after I had to ask for it and repeat our order and I was not offered any water jug with my coffee which was far too strong. The tin plates not too sure what that’s about and no garnish ie spinach , parsley , we did say to the waitress that our brunch was not nice she didn’t seem to want to know why , this a shame really cause your location was nice. I’ve had alot better for the same price in Wellsford ,Matakoe ,Mangawhai etc. Hopefully you will take this onboard with a better response than we got from your staff member this morning.

Thanks for the comment Christine, I will pass it on to them.
