Tartan Week in Waipu is hotting up

Tartan Week in Waipu has begun with tartan scarves and kilts dusted off – the band paraded in the street, tartan scarves abound, a special exhibition has opened in the Waipu Museum, kilts were worn to Church in the annual Kirkin o the Tartan in Waipu Presbyterian Church, and some kilts were even worn in the Waipu Cove Mid Winter Swim.

But there is more to come – July 1st is officially International Tartan Day and there is a breakfast at Food 45 and Classic Hits Breakfast show broadcasting from the venue from 6-10am. There is complimentary Haggis for those shopping at the Waipu Butchery, and shortbread in the shops if you are sporting some tartan.

Saturday 4 July
sees the celebrations continue with the Waipu Pipe Band parading mid morning, the monthly Hall Market and Tartan will be dressed up for the Museum sponsored Winter Ball that night.
