It is 17 years since the Mangawhai Walking Weekend began, and it has gone from strength to strength, with hundreds attending each year, and a wide variety of options for everyone from serious walkers to those who want to stroll.
Mangawhai Walking Weekend
1-3 April 2016
Last year it set up as a Trust and the funds from each walk contribute to the development of more walks in the Mangawhai Area. The Trackies work away each year on trapping pests, clearing tracks and developing new tracks.
While the Mangawhai Coastal Walkway is the most famous, it is now joined by some amazing tracks up in the Marenui area of King Road, where kiwi have been released and are doing well. These walks are available all year round – View them here
At the annual Mangawhai Walking Weekend these walks are a staple, but you can also join in on walks only available to organised groups.
On Saturday of the weekend, the Annual Mangawhai Food and Wine Festival is a sell out event held at the Olive Grove in Insley Street – be in early to get your tickets for this year 2 April.
On Friday Evening, there is the Troubadour Trail – a gentle walk with busking and entertainment along the way.
There are walks for serious trampers, walks for families, walks with the dog, biking options and more.
