Fairy Tern Wardens need your help

Vivienne Lepper is the Fairy Tern Ranger that works at DOC. She has just shared the news that Waipu has their first fairy tern nest for the 2015/2016 breeding season!

Given that there are only 40 fairy terns left, (NZs most endangered bird), its pretty big news!

Let's protect the chicks!

Let’s protect the chicks!

The nest is pretty vulnerable disturbance particularly from dogs

PLEASE NOTE – dogs are not allowed north of Waipu Camp Ground.

We have two new fairy tern wardens, one working full time at Waipu Wildlife Refuge, Alice Fairs.. so you will probably see her around.

Waipu River Watch Facebook page is a great place to keep up with what is happening in the estuary.
