The Bream Bay Tides Out Fun Run has graduated to college…
Tides Out Bream Bay Fun Run 6 November 2011 9.30-12pm
It started out in 2002 as a fundraiser for Bream Bay Kindergarten, which ran the event for five years. After a year in abeyance, it was taken up by the Waipu Primary PTA. Many of the parents who had helped to organise the fun run for its five years with the kindergarten now had children at the school.
This year, as the Waipu Primary PTA has decided to concentrate its fundraising efforts on its Easter Carnival, the fun run has been taken on by the Bream Bay College PTA and money raised will go towards the continued upgrade of the college grounds and gardens.
Susan McRae has stuck with the event through most of this time, “It’s funny to think that when we started with the run our children were little four – year – olds and now they are tall skinny teenagers.”
Susan has been putting in some long hours writing letters to potential sponsors. Already she has secured some good prizes – A night for two at the Heritage Hotel in Auckland with a cooked breakfast, for example which she is considering using as an early bird entry incentive prize.
This year’s Tides Out Fun Run is scheduled for Sunday 6 November. As in previous years, the course will start on the beach in front of the Ruakaka surf club and finish on the reserve beside the club, showcasing some of Ruakaka beach’s best scenic spots along the route.
On line entry forms will be available next month. Bream Bay College Website
