Waipu – The Celtic Heart of Bream Bay

Ceud Mile Failte – a hundred thousand welcomes!

Waipu has a Scottish story that sets it apart

Settled in the 1850s by 900 scottish immigrants who came via Nova Scotia under the leadership of the Rev. Norman Mcleod, they sought and found paradise in Waipu and set up a gaelic speaking community here in Waipu.

The street names testify to the story that echoes in the life of the village today, particularly when our own Highland Pipe Band Parades.
